Who’s on your team?

The older I get the more I realize we were not meant to do life alone. In a world where we're all trying to pull ourselves up by our bootstraps because we're enamored by America's golden calf of self-sufficiency, it can be hard to ask for help. But over the course of the last year, I've started to realize assembling teams of people to help me is a true blessing to me, my family and our community. It’s the way to success that I sometimes can’t see because of the thick trees in front of me. The single instance that's brought me to this place of surrender has been my journey with my child who has ADHD.

When she was first diagnosed, I thought a little bit of medicine would put us back on the right course and we would be just fine on our own. Three years later, we’ve added about a specialist a year to help her and it has been so worth it! From our beloved physical therapist, to our endearing counselor, to our education psychologist, Jesus has put these experts in our path to help us. They have invested in us with their knowledge, loved our girl and enabled us to continue to build a better life for our whole family.

Sometimes when we’re nearing our wits-end, we can’t see that a little bit of help from someone in an expert field could give us exactly what we need to take the next step. So, if you’re finding yourself in that place of overwhelm today, remember you weren’t meant to carry it all alone, to be so self-sufficient that no one else can help you. We have all been given a unique set of gifts to offer to others. We were also created to be in a community where we can accept our limitations and rely on the blessings of someone else’s gifts.

Start building your team of experts who can help you. Life is too complex to do it alone.
